Special machinery of VR Track Oy
VR Track provides machinery and material services for its own use and for its customers.
Our Machinery Services Unit purchases and maintains the machines, cars and waggons used in railway construction and maintenance.
The Material Services Unit is responsible for purchasing and storing railway material and it also carries out rail welding, impregnation of wooden sleepers and switch assembly.
VR Track’s heavy machines are state of the art. Highly automated equipment enables high quality to be produced quickly, efficiently and accurately. Measurement and control solutions are based on electronics and laser technology.
The machines, which are mostly purchased from manufacturers in Central Europe, have been tailored to Finnish requirements and converted to the Finnish gauge. Our stock also includes about 100 Finnish-made rail trucks for transporting items and materials on construction sites. The rail trucks can be equipped with such devices as snow ploughs and sweepers.
Our track inspection cars equipped with the latest inspection databases are state of the art in Europe in terms of technology and performance. Track inspection is an area in which the Machinery and Material Services Units are able to provide unrivalled expertise. Welding services supply customers with both new and refurbished rails welded to specific lengths. Rails for special trackwork and special-quality rails are also in the programme.
VR Track Oy assembles and supplies between 150 and 200 switches each year. The switches are assembled in two halls. The main products of our impregnation plant are impregnated wooden sleepers and poles. Most sleepers are also equipped with drillholes and baseplates.
VR Track’s purchasing and storage service keeps the materials production supplied with the necessary items, which is particularly important for the smooth functioning of our construction and maintenance operations. There is only one materials purchasing unit, while the inventory of 8,000 items has been decentralised into four locations in different parts of Finland.
