The aim of the project was to clarify the interfaces between VR Group and Liikennevirasto regarding the electricity distribution. To achieve this objective, we constructed two pad-mounted substations for VR Group; one of them to Tampere railway station and the other one near the Tampere train depot in Perkiö. The substations were connected to Tampere electricity distribution network to act as so-called customer substations as they supply only properties and electric equipment owned by VR Group.

As a part of the substation project, we renovated the electricity distribution system of Tampere train depot. The switchboard and most of the electrical centers of the depot were entirely renovated. Additionally, the safety and guidance lights and the fire alarm system were renovated. To monitor the electricity consumption the switchboard and substations were equipped with a comprehensive energy measurement system that can be monitored from a remote control room.
