Lielahti-Kokemäki alliance project by Liikennevirasto and VR Track

Lielahti-Kokemäki was the first alliance project of the public procurement in Europe and simultaneously the pilot project for Liikennevirasto. The project included renovations and improvements of the track covering a distance of almost 90 kilometers. The purpose of the renovations was to secure the present traffic as well as increase the life span of the track. On the other hand, the purpose of the improvements was to increase the level of the passenger and freight traffic.

The contracts where both stakeholders shared the risks and the benefits of the project were used to achieve the common objectives in the alliance project. The joint project organization was established to pursue new and more effective ways to act on the construction site. The new ways of operating ensured the overall cost-efficiency along with the improved lead time of the project. Furthermore, the safety at work was significantly emphasized being a major part of the key investment objectives.

The machine control was widely exploited in the large track heavy machines. The technique was also successfully used in the cleaning machines of the support layers first in the world.
